TAFT GALLERY. Pericolosamente insieme
The SECCI Gallery, at its Pietrasanta location in Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, 10, is pleased to present ‘TAFT GALLERY, Pericolosamente Insieme’, a collective exhibition displaying the works of Rong Bao, Zoë Field, Oliviero Fiorenzi, Aldo Giannotti, Giulia Mangoni, Jimmy Milani, Lola Montes, Edoardo Piermattei, Giulia Poppi, Gabriel Rico, Erik Saglia, and Fin Simonetti curated by Chiara Guidi.
Inauguration on Friday 19 July at 6.30 p.m., can be visited until 18 August.
The title is directly inspired by the 1986 film “Dangerously Together”, directed by Ivan Reitman where, for the first time in the history of cinema, the private Art Gallery is central and becomes the protagonist, not only in the plot, but as a place constituted by an imposing and modern architecture. It has become society’s privileged meeting place, because it is capable of aggregating and developing relations between multiple personalities and personalities, not only from the world of art, but that of politics and culture, revealing an as yet unseen lifestyle and intertwined dynamics within the system.
Almost forty years after its release, the film brings up a primary reflection: today, is the role of the private gallery still so decisive? Clearly this is a rhetorical question. In fact, the role of the gallery, in the multiple declinations it has undergone over time and through the strong personalities of each great gallery owner, has contributed to changing the way it operates, demonstrating that the gallery is not a simple and banal display of works or a showcase for the resulting economic transactions.
For it is not the simple and acquired white cube that justifies any present work, but remains the central place, the structural pivot of a social gear. An exclusive reference zone for artists, critics, journalists and collectors who, with their confrontations, debates and clashes, guide the galaxy of art, the comet to follow, continuing to determine and influence our times.
The role of the Gallery in Pietrasanta, is even more important. In fact, in the city of marble working, known as ‘little Athens’, where the historical presence of the great masters of sculpture has facilitated, in an exponential way, the spaces used for exhibitions, conventionally defined as galleries only because they display artistic artifacts exclusively for sale.
SECCI Gallery, presents and hosts TAFT GALLERY this ideal gallery, the fulcrum of a work carried out by the research of artists, between studios and galleries, where the selected works could still well represent it, that is to be like a decisive portion of the artistic kaleidoscope of 2024.
A container where the choices converge in the project of TAFT GALLERY still remaining is the ideal place that SECCI hosts to reaffirm the centrality of the role of the gallery and to propose this original collective where the various artists between painting, sculpture and site-specific interventions are the range of a spectrum that on the one hand highlight the “pericolosamente insieme”, due to the lack of a formal trend, and on the other hand showing an authentic juxtaposition.
