- Nidhal Chamekh
From January 29 to March 12, 2022, NOVO is pleased to host the first solo exhibition in Florence of the Tunisian artist Nidhal Chamekh, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto.
Artist of broad research – able to range from classic drawing to the digital media of video and photography -, for this first Florentine exhibition, Nidhal Chamekh proposes a series of works on paper of different dimensions. The choice of works is reduced to the very essential: 2 large works exhibited through an installation to which is added another series housed in the adjacent room. Concise and synthetic, the exhibition nevertheless manages to effectively propose a reconstruction of events intertwined with an intimate and at times autobiographical narrative. Within each drawing there are many elements and subjects that mutually interact, forming complex systems that situate Chamekh’s research between the biographical and the political, the contemporary history and the current affairs, the events and the archiving of these. Doing so, the artist occupies a dimension suspended between collective and individual memory, raising questions about the construction of identity in contemporary society and its formation processes.
